Punarnavasavam Ingredients, Uses, Dose & Side Effects
Punarnavasavam is the type of herbal wine, which is widely used in Ayurveda for kidney problems or urinary troubles due to its diuretics actions. It is also utilized in jaundice, urinary tract infection, oedema due to kidney or heart diseases and nephrotic syndrome.
Boerhavia diffusa is the main ingredient in Punarnavasavam. Other ingredients present in it are Zingiber officinalis, Piper nigrum, Piper longum, Emblica officinalis, Tribulus terrestris, Solanum indicum, Picrorrhiza kurroa, Tinospora cordifolia etc.
Phamacological action of Punarnavasavam:
As per Ayurveda, Punarnavasavam pacifies all humours and reduces inflammation. Therefore, it is a very important ayurvedic remedy for inflammation of kidneys and liver. Moreover, it has a diuretic action. It is very useful in managing disorder of heart especially congestive heart failure. It reduces swelling in the body due to any underlying reason.
Punarnavasavam has anti-oxidant, blood purifier, anti-inflammatory and rejuvenating properties. Therefore, it is beneficial in liver diseases as well as kidney diseases. It reduces inflammation of liver and kidney both so it is very much useful in nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and hepatitis.
Punarnavasavam also has property to lower a fever but it is beneficial if fever is due to urinary tract infections. It has anti-bacterial property so it kills bacteria or microbes from the urinary tract and kidneys and manages fever.

There are no known side effects noted. However, it should be used in diabetes mellitus with caution.
