Rheumatoid Arthritis(RA)
Arthritis
Arthritis is a disorder that mainly affects body joints. It involves swelling of your body due to infection. The first form of this disorder was discovered in the early 4500BC. This ailment was discovered in Tennessee from remains of Native Americans. Since then, evidence of arthritis has been found to exist all around the world from Italy to Austria all the way to Egypt. Since then, enormous research has been carried and more about the disorder has been revealed. Today scientists have discovered more than 100 types of arthritis.
Symptoms
There are common symptoms that anyone suffering from arthritis experiences regardless of the form of this disorder. These include stiffness of joints and varying levels of painful swelling. At times you experience constant ache all around the joint. Other forms of arthritis such as rheumatoid and lupus also affect other organs. In such cases, symptoms include a feeling of fatigue, inadequate sleep, tenderness, and muscle pain and weight loss. In cases of more advanced forms of arthritis the following symptoms occur.
- Reduced aerobic fitness
- Weakened muscles
- Inflexibility.
Causes
Several factors may contribute to this disorder. Thus to determine the main cause of this abnormality may be difficult. Research has shown that this disease occurs mostly in aged people. This is because most connective tissues become brittle and weak as one becomes aged. This makes it have less ability to repair itself. Some other causes may include;
- Genetics (this may occur due to inheritance).
- Weight: heavier people are at risk of getting this disorder
- Illness and infection: persons who experience joint infection, different medical conditions or various gout episodes are at high risk of developing joint arthritis.
- Occupational hazards depending on the location and type of occupation: specific persons may be at risk of getting this disease. This may be due to the extreme condition, tiresomeness and amount of strain one job may require.
Types
One common is osteoarthritis. In most places, it is referred to as degenerative joints disease. It is due to joint infection, age or severe injury to joints. Other forms of arthritis include psoriatic arthritis, Septic arthritis (caused by infections of joints), Gouty arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is carried out by physicians with adequate health knowledge. Tests may include blood tests, depending on the form of arthritis suspected. All people suffering from arthritis potentially experience pain. In most cases, the pattern of individual pain may differ according to the type of arthritis experienced and area of infection. In cases of rheumatic arthritis, a person experiences worse pain in the morning and in most cases, it is associated with stiffness. This happens in the later stages of this disorder because you will not experience such trauma at its initial stages, after shower in the in the morning. Some other forms of arthritis such as osteoarthritis may worsen after exercise. Children and the elderly may not experience lots of pain. This is because most infected aged persons move less. Also the young patients might not necessarily use the affected limbs.
