Introduction:

Lodhrasavam is herbal syrup manufactured by the process of fermentation. It is useful in various health conditions. It contains 4 to 8 % self-generated alcohol. Lodhrasavam possesses extracts of herbs that dissolve in both alcohol and water. Therefore, it very effective in bleeding piles, frequent urination, anaemia, anorexia, irritable bowel syndrome and skin diseases.

Main Ingredients:

Symplocos racemosa is a main ingredient in Lodhrasavam. Other important ingredients are Rubia cordifolia, Cyclea peltata and Swertia chiraita.

Pharmacological action of Lodhrasavam:

Lodhrasavam is astringent in action and used in diarrhea and dysentery. It binds stool and aids to stop frequent motions.

It is a natural coagulant and constricts blood vessels and capillaries. Thus, it stops bleeding. Therefore, it is widely used in bleeding disorders especially, bleeding piles and abnormal vaginal bleeding.

Lodhrasavam is very good anti-inflammatory, which reduces inflammation of uterine cavity. By this, it is beneficial in leucorrhea and menorrhagia (Abnormally heavy or prolonged menstruation). If pain is associated with menorrhagia, it also alleviates pain and reduces cramps.

1. Bleeding piles
2. Frequent urination and other urinary troubles
3. Anaemia
4. Anorexia
5. Irritable bowel syndrome
6. Skin diseases
7. Abnormal uterine bleeding
8. Loss of appetite

Side effects and precautions:

There are no known side effects with Lodhrasavam. However, it should be avoided in diabetes mellitus.
