Jeerakadyarishtam: Ingredients, Uses, Dose & Side Effects
Introduction:
Jeerakadyarishtam is very beneficial in post-delivery care. It is uterine tonic as well as a digestive stimulant. There are some symptoms common after delivery in most of the women. These symptoms are anorexia, loss of appetite, weakness, burning sensation, indigestion, flatulence and abdominal distension. Jeerakadyarishtam is very beneficial in treating these symptoms. In a nutshell, it normalizes digestive system.
Main Ingredients:
Cumin or Cuminum cyminum is the main ingredient in Jeerakadyarishtam. It has anti-inflammatory action especially for uterine muscles. Other important ingredients are Illicium verum, Woodfordia fruticosa, Cyperus rotundus, Myristica fragrans, Syzygium aromaticum, Zingiber officinale, Pogostemon cablin, Trachispermum roxburghianum, Cinnamomum verum, Mesua ferrea, Elettaria cardamomum, etc.
Pharmacological action of:
The main ingredient is cumin in Jeerakadyarishtam, which is digestive and carminative in action. Other herbs present in Jeerakadyarishtam have approximate same action as of cumin. Jeerakadyarishtam is very beneficial in vata and pitta disorders as it allays pain and reduces burning sensation.
According to some modern experts, it is appetizer so it is well used in loss of appetite and other digestive problems such as indigestion or anorexia. Moreover, it aids in eliminations of toxins accumulated inside the body by improving liver metabolism as well as cellular metabolism.
It has anti-inflammatory action, which is mainly on soft tissues and muscles. Therefore, it alleviates pain and inflammation in stomatitis. It also reduces inflammation of uterus and removes toxins from it. Therefore, Jeerakadyarishtam is recommended by most of the Ayurvedic physicians for post-delivery care period. It also provides strength to lactating women and improves breast milk production.

Used in women after delivery to restore normal digestive functions
Low breast milk supply
Nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite and anorexia
Flatulence and abdominal distension
Leucorrhoea or vaginitis
Irritable bowel syndrome
Gastritis or heartburn in lactating women
Side effects and precautions:
There are no known side effects with consumption of Jeerakadyarishtam. However, it is contraindicated in diabetes mellitus.
