Draksharishtam Ingredients, Uses, Dose & Side Effects
Draksharishtam is an Ayurvedic herbal remedy for abdominal ailments. It is sweet in taste due Vitis vinifera. It increases vitality and strength in the body. Its potency is enhanced due fermentation process. Draksharishtam is used in the treatment of anorexia, indigestion, and anaemia.
Main Ingredients:
Vitis vinifera is the main ingredient of Draksharishtam. It is digestive stimulant and antacid. Other ingredients in Draksharishtam are Cinnamomum verum, Callicarpa macrophylla, Elettaria cardamomum, Embelia ribes , Mesua ferrea, Pogostemon cablin, Piper nigrum, Piper longum, and jaggery.
Pharmacological action of Draksharishtam:
Draksharishtam has cool potency and sweet and little astringent taste. It appeases vata and pacifies pitta humour. It works on digestive system by holding gastric secretion in natural equilibrium and keeps balance in liver metabolism. Its main action is on digestive system in which it increases secretion of gastric juices but does not increase them from the required natural limits. Secondarily, it acts on brain and induces desire to eat. This is main mechanism of its action by which it becomes beneficial in anorexia as well as loss of appetite.
Draksharishtam is also digestive stimulant as mentioned above. It also works in indigestion by increasing metabolism of liver. It is of cool potency so it is also helpful in heartburn and acidity or GERD.
Draksharishtam is rich in natural iron and other minerals. Iron present in Draksharishtam has more bioavailability than iron supplements. Therefore, it increases haemoglobin levels and mostly given in cases of anaemia.

It has been used in children and pregnant women since medieval times so it will be considered safe than conventional western medicines. It should not be taken if you are patient of diabetes mellitus due sugar content.
