Saraswatharishtam – Ingredients, Uses, Dose & Side Effects
There is no comparative medicine for brain as Saraswatharishtam. It is highly efficacious for brain as a tonic and restoring memory. It prevents and treats cognitive problems. It is used in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) of children, impaired cognitive capabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety and depression.
Main ingredients:
Gotu Kola (botanically Centella asiatica) and gold are the main ingredients of Saraswatharishtam. It is nervine tonic and increases memory. Other important ingredients are asparagus, Chebulic myrobalan, long pepper, sweet flag, Indian gingseng, tinospora cordifolia, cardamom, cinnamon and clove.
Pharmacological action of Saraswatharishtam:
Saraswatharishtam assuages vata and pitta humours. However, it is balanced preparation of ayurveda, which can be given to every patient except person has uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. It soothes the brain cells and strength them for performing various functions. Its main action is on the mind. It calms the mind and enhances attention. Therefore, students mostly use it especially during time of examinations to increase alertness and keep themselves relax and calm.
Saraswatharishtam is formulated from various beneficial herbs that increase memory and grasping power of person. Therefore, it is given in patients suffering from impaired memory or Alzheimer’s disease. Saraswatharishtam improves cognitive functions of brain so it is prescribed in impaired cognitive capabilities.
In children, it is used to treat Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It calms the overactive mind and provides positive energy to them. As per ayurveda, it increases sattva guna (good qualities) in a person.
There are many evidences for its main ingredient gotu kola that state, gotu kola aids in stabilizing plaques that deposit in arteries. This disease is known as atherosclerosis. Therefore, Saraswatharishtam can also help in problem of hardening of the arteries and breaks off fats or plaque to preclude heart attack.

There are no adverse effects observed with Saraswatharishtam since hundreds of years usage in various patients. It is well tolerable and considered safe as compared to western medicines used for anxiety or depression. Saraswatharishtam should be taken with precaution if you are diabetic.
