Kanakasavam Ingredients, Uses, Dose & Side Effects
Introduction:
Kanakasavam is a unique herbal wine or magic health drink prescribed in asthma or other breathing difficulties associated with various diseases. It is also useful in tuberculosis, chronic fever and chest pain.
Main Ingredients:
The main ingredient of Kanakasavam is Datura stramonium. Other important herbs are Vitis vinifera, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Adhatoda beddomei, Abies spectabilis, Solanum surattense, Mesua ferrea, Piper longum, Zingiber officinale, Woodfordia fruticosa, Clerodendrum serratum, etc.
Pharmacological action of:
According to Ayurveda, Kanakasavam is hot in potency and pacifies vata and kapha. It acts as expectorant. In addition, it reduces production of mucous inside the respiratory tract.
As per recent researches, Kanakasavam is anti-inflammatory in action. It is used in bronchitis or COPD for reducing inflammation of respiratory tract or bronchi. It dilates bronchi and eases breathing. Due to this pharmacological action, Kanakasavam is the drug of choice in acute asthmatic attack. It also works well in chronic problems related to difficulties in breathing.
Kanakasavam has analgesic and anti-colic action so it is beneficial in acute pain of kidney stones. To alleviate kidney stone pain, it is given in a dose of 15 to 25 ml twice a day.

Kanakasavam is prohibited in cases of glaucoma or any disease in which intraocular pressure is elevated. Always use this medicine under the supervision of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.
