Kutajarishtam Ingredients, Uses, Dose & Side Effects
Kutajarishtam is an Ayurvedic medicine prepared from the process of fermentation. It is useful in diarrhea, chronic dysentery, abdominal pain, and anorexia, Painful spasm of the anal sphincter, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome.
Ingredients:
Holarrhena antidysenterica is the main ingredient, which gives anti-dysentery and anti-diarrhoeal properties to Kutajarishtam. Other ingredients are Woodfordia fruticosa, Madhuca indica, Gmelina arborea and Vitis vinifera etc.
Pharmacological action of Kutajarishtam:
Kutajarishtam pacifies kapha and pitta humour as per Ayurveda. It reduces inflammation of intestinal mucosa and acts anti-diarrheal and anti-dysentery agent. It also stops bleeding in ulcerative colitis and reduces the frequency of motion. Moreover, it has antibacterial and anti-microbial properties by it does not only helpful in stopping excessive motions but also beneficial to eradicate infections.
It is anti-spasmodic and mainly works on anal sphincter. It aids relaxation of the anal sphincter. Therefore, it is useful in a painful spasm of the anal sphincter or tenesmus.

Side effects and precautions:
There is no recorded or noted adverse effect of Kutajarishtam. However, it is contraindicated in constipation. Excess use of Kutajarishtam may lead to constipation so take only recommended dose.
