Lohasavam Ingredients, Uses, Dose  &  Side Effects

Introduction:

Lohasavam is an iron supplement in Ayurveda used in anaemia. Pallor skin, improper digestion and fatigue are associated with anaemia. Lohasavam is beneficial in these symptoms of anaemia. It provides strength to the body and reduces general fatigue. It is also useful in cases of flatulence, abdominal distension, piles and ascites.

Main Ingredients:

Iron is the main ingredient in Lohasavam. However, its potency is increased by processing with herbs. Zingiber officinale, Terminalia bellirica, Phyllanthus emblica, Terminalia chebula, Embelia ribes, Cyperus rotundus, Plumbago zeylanica, Piper nigrum, Piper longum are important herbal ingredients present in Lohasavam.

Pharmacological action of Lohasavam:

Lohasavam is a fermented formulation of iron that is processed with some herbs, which are beneficial for increasing appetite and rich in nutrients. According to Ayurveda, Lohasavam pacifies kapha humour mainly. It aids to detoxify micro-channels of the body by which nutrition is reaching to each cell. It is also helpful in increasing appetite due to the presence of appetizer herbs in it.

Lohasavam is an iron supplement. It increases hemoglobin level in the blood and reduces symptoms of anaemia. Iron present in it is well tolerable as compared to iron supplements of western medicines. It does not cause abdominal discomfort or metallic taste in the mouth.

Uses and indications:

  1. Anaemia
  2. Abdominal distension
  3. Bronchitis
  4. Asthma
  5. Ascites or edema

Side effects and precautions:

Lohasavam is not merely iron tonic but it is also an appetizer and cures several other problems as listed above. However, it should not be taken in ulcers, burning sensation and gastritis or GERD.
