Vasarishtam Ingredients, Uses, Dose & Side Effects
Introduction:
Vasarishtam is herbal preparation used for respiratory diseases. It is prepared by the specific technique of fermentation. It contains self-generated alcohol in very less amount 4 to 8 %. Vasarishtam is advantageous in a productive cough, chest congestion, asthma and hoarseness of voice.
Main Ingredients:
Adhatoda beddomei, cinnamomum verum and elettaria cardamomum are main ingredients of Vasarishtam. Other ingredients are Myiristca fragrans, Mesua ferrea, Illicium verum, Piper longum, Zingiber officinale, Piper nigrum, Cinnamomum camphora, etc.
Pharmacological action of:
Vasarishtam is pitta and kapha pacifier according to Ayurveda. It dilates the bronchi and eases expulsion of mucous by liquefying it. Due to these medicinal properties, it is very useful in a productive cough, asthma and chest congestion.
Vasarishtam also has the property of coagulation. Therefore, it is used in various bleeding disorders. However, it is more effective in nosebleed or epistaxis.
Vasarishtam has antibacterial properties and prevents infections of respiratory tract or lungs. However, it is more effective in upper respiratory tract infections. If sputum is yellow or greenish in color or there is smelly sputum, Vasarishtam is more effective in these cases of cough that associated with fever.
